Cocktail hour

In the Cocktail set series, I’m trying to find the balance between ceramics and cocktails by designing each mug with a special drink in mind.

The shape and size is inspired by the Icelandic Brennivín brand. This Icelandic distilled spirit is strong, rough and has a special taste.

I wanted the shape to reflect the drink and to give it elegance. The mugs have a rough edge and what it looks like a heavy bottom. When you pick up the mugs, they fall well in the hand and it almost feels like you can spin them on the side.

The mugs are meant to be coloured with a dark and matte surface, intended to reflect the Icelandic lava rock, as well as the Brennivín logo.

This set is still a work-in-progress. Each piece is hand thrown stoneware, which means they can differ a slight from each other.

Cocktail Recipies

Shot of Brennivín

The classic way to drink Brennivín, as a single shot of 30 ml. Often served with a small bite of shark.

The 50 ml glass is inspired by the Mexican mezcal copita, a shot of mezcal drink in a small ceramic cup.

Brennivín Gimlet

2 parts Icelandic Brennivín
1 part lime juice
3/4 part simple syrup
Lime wedge, to serve

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice cubes. Shake, then strain into a chilled coupe glass and serve garnished with a lime wedge.

Inspired by the British gin Gimlet served in a 100 ml coupe glass.

Brennivín Berry Cocktail

2 parts Icelandic Brennivín
1 part simple syrup
2 parts Goji berry juice
Blue berries
Raspberries

Crush the berries and add the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled 2/3 with ice cubes.

Shake for 15-20 seconds and strain into the glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish with leftover berries.

200 ml glass inspired by the classic Tiki cocktail glasses originated from Hawaii.
